A team of distinguished Japanese scholars make a critique of Hugo Grotius' De jure belli ac pacis and re-examine the historiography of international law with its anachronistic Eurocentric bias., The purpose of this work is to present a comprehensive view of Hugo Grotius's main work De Jure Belli ac Pacis. It is the product of a joint research project on Grotius' book, carried out by the Research Group on the Fundamental Theory of International Law, headed by the editor., This work presents a scholarly commentary and critique of Hugo Grotius' De Jure Belli ac Pacis . It shows that, far from being a bookish theoretician indulging in the construction of an abstract system, Grotius ultimately aimed to create a practically oriented treatise focusing on "regulating and restraining war."
